Check Frequency

FrequencyProsCons
DailyCatches problems quicklyUses more server resources
WeeklyGood balance, less resource intensiveSlower to detect issues
MonthlyMinimal resource usageProblems may go unnoticed

Recommendation: Daily for active sites, weekly for smaller sites.

False Positives

Sometimes links work but are flagged as broken:

Causes

  • Temporary server issues
  • Geographic blocking
  • Rate limiting
  • Server blocking automated checks

Solutions

  1. Test manually: Click the link to verify it works
  2. Check from different locations: Use GeoPeeker or similar service
  3. Adjust frequency: Weekly checks reduce temporary issue captures
  4. Ignore the issue: If link works, mark as ignored

Best Practices

  • Review health reports weekly
  • Fix broken links promptly
  • Test links before ignoring issues
  • Set appropriate check frequency
  • Keep notifications enabled

Performance Impact

Health monitoring uses server resources:

  • Daily checks: More resource intensive
  • Weekly checks: Balanced approach
  • Many links: More resources required

If experiencing performance issues:

  1. Reduce check frequency
  2. Reduce number of links
  3. Upgrade hosting plan
